Non Stick Cookware

Non stick cookware are pots and pans that have the inside cooking surface coated with a Teflon related
material that creates a surface to which cooking food will not stick. Eggs can be cooked without oil and
even burned food is easily removed.

When first brought out non stick cookware was a boon to cooks, although it was soon discovered
that it had it's limitations.  The surface was easily scratched and marred by metal utensils, the
non stick ability lost if put in the dishwasher, and in some instances if heated to a high heat the
material gave off harmful fumes.

Most of the above problems have been solved with the invention of new and better non stick
substances.  Some manufactures now claim that metal utensils can be used with the surface,
although I believe it is still better to use wood and silicon with this cookware.  Also some is
said to be dishwasher safe.  It is important with this type of cookware, even more than others
to read and follow the manufacturers instructions.  Used correctly and cared for well this is an
excellent type of cookware, and the non stick surface is being used in all types of cookware
from stainless steel to cast iron.
